In 2023, we began by addressing immediate needs through the distribution of dental hygiene essential supplies. As we continued our work, it became clear that lasting health improvements depend not only on materials but also on strong health and hygiene education, as well as access to clean water and basic infrastructure. In response, our program evolves into a comprehensive framework that places education at the center, integrating supply distribution with STEM-based infrastructure projects—such as building rainwater-harvesting systems to expand clean water access. Through hands-on workshops, children learned how to brush and floss properly, understood common oral diseases, and practiced making simple, safe mouthwash using locally available ingredients. Thus, we equip children and families with the knowledge, skills, and hygiene materials they need, while also supporting the physical resources necessary to sustain long-term health and well-being. This comprehensive framework establishes a replicable system that can be extended to additional schools and underserved regions in Vietnam.
Our Impact
By teaching children how to care for their oral and overall health, we helped reduce preventable illness, improve confidence, and support better school participation. For many families, these dental and hygiene care packages and oral health education were their first introduction to structured oral and hygiene care—an important step toward healthier futures. Starting summer of 2025, William Pham, our co-founder, spearheaded the Smiles for Life initiative, leading interactive dental health and hygiene workshops for children in underserved communities. In these sessions, students learned how to brush and floss effectively, were introduced to common oral diseases, and gained an understanding of the importance of daily oral care for overall health. To make the lessons practical and sustainable, we also guided children in preparing a simple, safe mouthwash using locally available ingredients, giving them a tool to maintain oral hygiene at home. Through hands-on activities and engaging demonstrations, the workshops empowered students with both knowledge and practical skills, fostering lifelong habits that enhance their health, confidence, and school participation.
